MESSI HITS 90 GOALS FOR ARGENTINA

Seven-time Ballond’orwinner Lionel Messi is up to 90 goals for his country after he came off the bench to score twice for Argentina during their international friendly win over Jamaica on Tuesday night.

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) superstar Messi has been in sensational form for his country and at the right time ahead of the World Cup 2022 tournament in Qatar. He was rested for the game against the Jamaicans at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. Argentina coach Lionel Scalonisubbed Messi on eleven minutes into the second half in the place of Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

At the time of his entrance, Argentina had a one-goal lead thanks to the first half strike from Manchester City attacker Julian Alvarez off the assist from the aforementioned Martinez. Alvarez scored the first goal of the game on 13 minutes and it was enough to give the Argentines a slender lead at the end of the first half.

Argentina were the better team and they should have scored more goals before Messi sealed the game with the second goal four minutes from time. Messi made it two goals in three games with the third goal via a clever free-kick with a minute left on the clock. With his two goals against the Reggae Boys, Messi has taken his tally to 90 goals in 164 Argentina appearances thus extending his lead as the player with the most goals for the two-time world champions.

After the game against Jamaica, Messi has now scored nine goals in his last three games for Argentina. He’s hitting top form for his country ahead of the World Cup 2022 tournament on Qatari soil. The World Cup 2022 tournament starts in less than two months and Argentina are one of the top three favourites to win the tournament.
